2021 IOM SI & National Regattas rescheduled

Additional information – Copy of letter sent from RYSN, 13th September to South Island Champs entrants

2021 IOM South Island Champs and IOM National regattas re scheduled due to Covid Restrictions

We have all been hanging out in the hope that the country will return to level 2 to allow all competitors to attend the South Island IOM Champs and IOM Nationals.

Unfortunately, this week’s Covid 19 lockdown announcements prevent competitors from the Auckland region from attending the regattas. The Auckland region competitors make up approximately 50% of the fleet numbers for both regattas events.

We are very pleased to advise the Nelson RYS have pulled a rabbit out of the hat and undertaken to host the both the IOM SI Champs and Nationals at Best Island, Nelson at the end of November, early December, when it is hoped we will all be at level 2 or better. The option of having the Nationals at Lake Pegasus later in the year was not feasible due to the lake being affected by weed.

The new dates for the regattas at Nelson are as follows:

  • IOM South Island Champs – November 27th and 28th (followed five days later by)
  • IOM National Champs – December 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Details are being worked on at present, more information will be forthcoming ASAP.

In addition to the above, for those at Covid level 2 or better, Nelson RYS are going ahead with an alternative ‘Best Island Invitational Regatta’ on the 25th and 26th of September.

We are aware that many competitors have booked leave and paid for flights, ferry crossings, accommodation, rental cars etc. It is hoped that providing you with this early advice and these new dates, will allow those arrangements/bookings to be changed with minimal impact.

Lastly, hats off to Nelson RYS with the support of Pegasus RSC in rescuing 2 of New Zealand’s premier IOM regattas. Fingers crossed we will all be at level 2, or better, before the end of November.

More communications from Nelson RYS and Pegasus RSC to follow.

Stay safe
