RO’s Report of Top of the South – 17 February 2018
The day dawned fine and clear with a forecast of wind later in the day, but this was not to be.
After a skippers meeting and briefing a wait for the expected breeze began. The first race was conducted in light airs and only just made the time limit. The breeze piped up a bit and the next three race were conducted in a timely fashion. As the breeze faded during race four it was decided to have a lunch break and wait for the afternoon sea breeze to fill in.
The first attempt at race five ran out of time. the course was shortened and a successful race was run.
Unfortunately the wind continued to die and race 6 was contested in very light airs, this was to be the last race of the day.
A good day was had by all and congratulations to Steve Champion for defending his last years win, followed by Basil Hart in second and Nigel Petrie in third. All the other skippers performed well and some close racing was had by all.
